General Safety Advice

Safety and Security

Overall, the vast majority of supporters will have a fantastic and trouble-free tournament across all three countries.

As with any major sporting event, basic common sense goes a long way. Keep valuables secure, avoid displaying large amounts of cash, and be aware of your surroundings in crowded areas.

Pickpocketing and petty theft can occur in busy tourist areas, particularly around nightlife districts, public transport and major events.

If using rideshare services such as Uber or Lyft, always confirm the registration plate and driver before entering the vehicle.

Local policing styles may differ significantly from the UK, particularly in the USA. Always remain calm and respectful during any interaction with law enforcement.

Finally, pace yourselves. This tournament is a marathon, not a sprint. Hydrate, sleep occasionally, and remember there is absolutely no tactical advantage gained by attempting to drink in every host city within four days.

Emergency numbers are:

  • USA & Canada: 911
  • Mexico: 911 (also operates nationally)

  • Open alcohol laws are much stricter than in the UK. In almost all host cities, drinking alcohol in the street is prohibited unless inside a designated event zone or licensed area.
  • Smoking inside bars and restaurants is banned across all host cities listed above. Many places also apply the same restrictions to vaping indoors.
  • Cannabis laws vary massively by state and country. Even where cannabis is legal locally, it remains illegal federally in the United States, meaning carrying it across state or international borders is illegal. You cannot take it on a plane.
  • Mexico has strict anti-vaping laws. Importing, selling or distributing vapes and e-cigarettes is illegal and devices can be confiscated at airports or border crossings.
  • Jaywalking (crossing the street outside of a designated area) laws exist in most North American cities, although enforcement varies significantly. New York City and California have relaxed enforcement in recent years, while other cities may still issue fines.
  • Car rental companies will usually rent to drivers aged 21+, although anyone under 25 often faces substantial “young driver” charges.
  • ID checks for alcohol purchases are extremely common across North America, regardless of age. Don’t be surprised if you get asked for ID while ordering a pint at 45 years old.
